Liverpool owner Tom Hicks promises Rafa Benitez transfer funds

Tom Hicks, the owner of English soccer club Liverpool, has promised that some of the income from the club's world record shirt sponsorship deal will be given to coach Rafa Benitez to use in the transfer market.Hicks and his co-owner, George Gillett, have received some criticism from the club's fans over the level of their investment, but Hicks insists the club will continue to spend as it seeks to capture the English title for the first time in nearly two decades."Knowing Rafa Benitez I suspect he's got his eye on part of it," said Hicks. "As we build our revenues it gives ability to be more competitive on the pitch and, this is a very important one, but we think we have other opportunities in the future as well."Everybody involved with Liverpool wants to win the Premier League, it's been too many years and it's our goal."Hicks also spoke about the improved relationships between himself, Gillett and Benitez. "Everything is very stable. I think the management situation at the club has dramatically improved," said Hicks. "There is a real sense of optimism."

Liverpool: Standard Chartered explain backing of club with ‘huge following’

Standard Chartered, the bank that has signed a world record sponsorship deal with English soccer club Liverpool, has moved to explain the reasoning behind its move into soccer.
The bank will pay Liverpool more than US$130 million over the next four years as it seeks to increase its business. Its sponsorship of Liverpool, who have been English champions 18 times and European champions five times, is tailored not at either of those regions, but at Asia.
"From a Standard Chartered perspective, Asia is our home," senior group brand manager Nicola Apostolis told Asia Sponsorship News. "We opened our first branches in 1858 in Shanghai and Mumbai; and in Hong Kong and Singapore in 1859. Today, 80 per cent of our business is done in Asia.
"The Liverpool sponsorship is a perfect match in terms of geographic footprint, as the club has a huge following in many of our markets, particularly across Asia."
Liverpool claim to have 58 million fans in China, the country identified by many analysts as the nexy key market for the English Premier League. Asia Sponsorship News quotes a study reporting that 90 per cent of Asian sports fans identified the Premier League as the sports competition they follow most closely.
The bank has confirmed it will sell Liverpool shirts in its Asian branches, providing another revenue stream for the club.

500 grams pork neck, cut into 1 inch cubes7 grams hang lay powder50 grams pre-prepared hang lay curry paste50 grams roasted peanuts50 grams pickled local garlic (small and roundish)100 grams fresh garlic100 grams shallots200 grams onions, sliced50 grams ginger, shredded50 grams tamarind juice50 grams palm sugar20 grams light soy sauce10 grams dark soy sauce
Combine the pork with the hang lay powder, curry paste, peanuts, fresh garlic, shallots, onions, ginger (all but a few teaspoonfuls), tamarind, sugar and both types of soy sauce. Marinade for one hour.
Heat up a pot, add the marinated pork and simmer over low heat until the pork is tender. Add the pickled garlic and reduce the heat to very low. Simmer, stirring occasionally, for another 30 minutes.

Putting one’s hands to the nose or mouth after touching anything with the flu viruses on it could also spread the infection. Consuming well-cooked pork and pork products won’t cause infection as cooking to an internal temperature of 160°F kills bacteria and viruses, including the swine flu virus.Treatment and medication – While swine flu can generally be cured by the four antiviral drugs approved for curing flu in the US, amantadine, rimantadine, oseltamivir and zanamivir, the recent 2009 swine flu outbreak viruses have been found to be resistant to the first two drugs. Oseltamivir and zanamivir are now recommended for treatment and prevention of swine influenza.Prevention – Swine flu can be prevented by taking certain precautionary measures, such as washing hands frequently with soap or an alcohol-based hand wash. Staying away from infected individuals is important as their coughing or sneezing could spread the infection. If instances of infection are reported in your locality, stay indoors as far as possible. Swine flue vaccine could be out by June 2009.

What is Swine Flu?

Swine flu or swine influenza is a disease common in swine, with normal flu-like symptoms, but caused by any strain of the swine influenza virus (SIV - virus endemic in pigs). Though rare in humans, individuals with greater exposure to swine could contract swine influenza if the swine are carrying the particular rare strain of the SIV that is capable of affecting humans. This could occur if the SIV is able to mutate into a form that can be easily transmitted among humans.The swine flu outbreak of 2009 is believed to be caused by such a mutated strain of the SIV. The current outbreak is called swine flu only because one of the surface proteins of the tested virus is similar to the one which infects pigs. It is still unknown if this is currently infecting pigs though it’s clearly spreading among people, leading the World Health Organization to raise the Phase 4 pandemic alert. This new strain responsible for the outbreak has been found to be a re-assortment of strains of the influenza A virus subtype H1N1. These strains are separately endemic in humans and in swine.According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Tamiflu (oseltamivir) and Relenza (zanamivir) would help in treatment and prevention. Antiviral drugs, if started within two days of the manifestation of symptoms, succeed in reducing the severity of the symptoms, preventing further complications, and hastening cure. The most effective method of prevention is to wash hands frequently with soap or with a foam or alcohol-based gel hand wash that helps wipe away bacteria and viruses. Vaccines against the 2009 H1N1 strain outbreak are in the development stage and are expected to be ready by June 2009.
